Innerspheres
A ‘Trance – Formational’ Journey
By: Melissa Baird

Innerspheres is a unique collaboration between two clinical psychologists, Jeffrey Rink who specialises in clinical hypnosis and Heleniq Argyrou who specialises in Djembe drumming and sound therapy. Together they have created a meditative experience that takes the listener on a sound journey designed to ‘trance-form’ the mind, body and soul.

Jeffrey uses his voice and words to guide the meditation and Heleniq uses the djembe to create the rhythm. As you listen to the CD, the combination of these elements alters your consciousness to create a state of restful alertness as if you were under hypnosis.

The left- brain is synonymous with logical thinking and reason and the right brain with more creative and intuitive thinking. The premise of meditation and trance like states is that it synchronises the left and right brain hemispheres promoting harmonious integration of thoughts, thereby reducing stress and enhancing creativity and intuition. On a physiological level it deactivates the body’s fight or flight responses reducing levels of adrenalin in the body and increasing serotonin – the body’s feel good chemical.

Hypnosis can vary in intensity. But at any level the body becomes deeply relaxed and this counteracts the effects of stress. Physical, emotional and intellectual revitalization occurs and the minds’ functioning is completely altered. The unique affect of Innersphere however is that it combines the affects of hypnosis and trance djembe drumming which makes it a powerful therapeutic tool.

Heleniq speaks of her experience with drumming as a healing modality and the fact that drumming has been used for centuries as a healing and communicative medium. It has been used to alter states of consciousness because the rhythm of the drum echoes the first rhythms of life we experience in-utero, from the pumping rush of blood of our mother’s blood as it courses though her system into our own developing system.

Life has a natural rhythm which is constantly under stress from the pace of the world we live in. As little as twenty minutes a day of listening to trance drumming can create theta brain waves which result in a deeply relaxed state. The effect is like a massage on your central nervous system and it boosts your immune system, releases energy and balances your brain hemispheres aligning your emotions and intuition. The consistent sound of the drum creates hemispheric synchronicity.

Innerspheres takes you on a remarkable journey where you can access your very own deep state of peacefulness.
