Solving itchy skin and allergies in pets
By: Paul Jacobson

INTERNAL REMEDIES
Diet is the most important contributor to your pet’s skin conditions and allergies. A natural, wholesome diet that contains whole veggies, real meat, nutritious legumes, and cold pressed olive oil is the foundation for resolving skin allergies. It is also worthwhile including cooling herbs like mints, sage, lemon verbena & lemon balm.

The following supplements should also be added to food:
Omega 3 Fish Oil (not flaxseed)
Small breeds – 500mg per day
Medium & Large breeds – 1000mg per day

Rooibos Anti-itch
Small breeds – ½ t. spoon per day
Medium breeds – 1 t. spoon per day
Large breeds – 1.5 t. spoon per day

Spirulina
Small breeds – ½ t. spoon per day
Medium breeds – 1 t. spoon per day
Large breeds – 1.5 t. spoon per day

Apple Cider Vinegar
Small breeds – ½ t. spoon per day
Medium breeds – 1 t. spoon per day
Large breeds – 2 t. spoon per day

Avoid the following: dairy products, sugars & preservatives (no kibble, preserved treats & biscuits)

EXTERNAL REMEDIES
These remedies should be applied externally onto inflamed skin, hot spots and redness.

Rooibos Anti-itch
Massage lightly into the affected areas.

Fresh Bulbinella (Bulbinella or Aloe Vera or ferox)
The pulp/juice of the Bulbinella or Aloe should be applied regularly onto the affected and sensitive areas of the skin. Bulbinella grows very easily at home and is child friendly.

Alternatively, you may wish to consider Vondi's natural skin dip:
Prepare a basin of Rooibos Tea using 5 - 8 tea bags.
Add a quarter cup of Apple Cider Vinegar to stop scratching.
Add quarter cup of Vondi's Khakibos spray for flea and Ticks.
Add a few squirts of Vondi's Buchu Moisturising oil for dry skin - optional.

Once the water has cooled and you have removed the tea bags and rosemary, submerge your dog and hold him in this soothing water for 8 -10 minutes. This will also help to drown the fleas.
You can repeat this treatments a few times a week, if necessary.

Large Breeds: if you are unable to soak your large dog, then simply spray this solution onto the coat.

Never use chemical-based shampoos or poison-based flea repellents.
