Indalo Project - creativity begets creativity
By:

The Indalo Project, which will be launched in January 2011, is a remarkable design and social initiative. The brainchild of Patrick Schofield – founder of Streetwires, and consistent winner of Social Entrepreneurship awards - his consummate passionate for creating profitable enterprises that benefit and build the people working within them, led him to think up this rather unique project; in his words: “…this year we set out to build something extraordinary…”

The Indalo Project is not a charity. Instead, it is a hub of design, sales and marketing prowess to partner with, and bring in an income stream for, an entire network of already established craft organisations, whilst nurturing the evolution of extraordinary ranges. In its first year alone it intends to create 90 sales-based jobs, as well as increased income for 270 craft artists and other employees. Indeed “Something Extraordinary”...

And how does it work?
A team of handpicked skilled crafters and designers were brought together specifically to create beautiful pieces handcrafted from a range of natural and recycled materials.

Nicci Drzewicki, Mireille van Reenen, Hayley Rogers, Sharon Boonzaaier and Michaela Howse, all of whom are well established in their chosen design disciplines, have partnered with craft organisations such as Wolanani, Ntshomi Zam and Mielie, to create a collaborative range. The twinning of the producers’ integral knowledge for their craft with the fresh perspectives of an outside designer results in gorgeous new product ideas.

Sneak previews at final product reviews have shown product ranges as diverse as they are desirable- everything from furniture to wrapping paper, and computer accessories in between.

The products will be showcased in a visually stunning exhibition at the Cape Quarter in January 2011, but if you’re longing for a sneak preview, visit www.indaloproject.co.za.
